Here’s a great project for the whole family, Make Your Own Clay Christmas Ornaments. This will be the third year Your Creation Station is doing this popular and fun workshop. Ornaments you create yourself make great gifts, stocking stuffers and keepsakes for years to come.
What to Expect
We give you a pound of clay to roll out flat and cut your own ornaments from. We have a bin full of cookie cutters to cut out the shapes and even more bins full of stuff you can press into the soft clay for more surface decoration. Feel free to bring your own cookie cutters or textures to use. You can roll out the clay as many times as you like but after some time the clay become unworkable. We can generally get it through the slab roller three times.
When you finish making your ornaments, we’ll let them dry in our studio and then bisque fire them. That takes about a week. After they have been fired once, you can return at any time you like to paint them. Once finished, we’ll glaze and fire them again. One pound of clay makes anywhere from 6 to 30 ornaments depending on how big you make them.
Plan to make three non-concurrent trips to Your Creation Station for this project. Once to make the ornaments, once to paint the ornaments and once to pick up the finished pieces. One pound of clay costs $25, everything else is included.
We’ll have open workshops devoted to making ornaments on the following days:
- Friday, November 15, 2013 @ 6:30
- Thursday, November 21, 2013 @ 6:30
- Sunday, November 24, 2013 @ 2:30 PM
- Wednesday, December 4, 2013 @ 6:30 PM
If you can’t make one of these days, let us know. Depending on what’s going on at any particular day and given the space required to spread out and work, we can’t promise we’ll be able to fit you in on a walk-in basis but you can be sure we’ll give it a try.
