Blink your eyes a couple times, that’s how fast the holidays seem to sneak up. Christmas will be before you know it and if you would like to make your own presents and decorations, the sooner you start the better. This year Your Creation Station is offering our annual Make Your Own Christmas Ornaments workshops in two varieties, clay and glass!
Make Your Own Clay Ornaments
A holiday tradition for many of the families who come to our studio. Ornaments you create yourself make great gifts for teachers and friends, stocking stuffers and keepsakes for years to come.
What to Expect
For the clay ornament workshops, your get a pound of clay to roll out flat and cut your own ornaments from. We have a bin full of cookie cutters to cut out the shapes and even more bins full of stuff you can press into the soft clay to add interesting surface decorations. Feel free to bring your own cookie cutters or textures to use.
We roll out the clay as many times as you like but after three or four rolls, the clay become unworkable. One pound of clay makes anywhere from 6 to 30 ornaments depending on how big you make them. Most people get about 10 to 12.
When you finish making your ornaments, we’ll let them dry in our studio and then bisque fire them. The whole process takes about a week. After the ornaments are fired once, you can return at any time you like to paint them. Once finished, we’ll glaze and fire them again.
Plan to make three non-concurrent trips to Your Creation Station for this project. One trip to make the ornaments, one trip to paint the ornaments and once to pick up the finished pieces. One pound of clay still costs $25, everything else is included.
The Dates – Make Days
We have devoted the following days (all the stuff is out and ready to go, all day long) to making ornaments. Plan on arriving anytime after we open at 10 AM (noon on Sundays) but before we close at 7 PM (or 5 PM on Sundays), we’re planning on staying late so don’t worry about it:
Wednesday, November 2, 2016
Thursday, November 10, 2016
Saturday November 12, 2016
Friday, November 18, 2016 (No School)
Sunday, November 20, 2016
Tuesday, November 22, 2016 (No School)
If you can’t make one of these days, let us know. Depending on what’s happening on any particular day and given the space required to spread out and work, we can’t promise we’ll be able to fit you in on a walk-in basis but you can be sure we’ll give it a try. Are you the leader of a Scout Troop? Give us a call and we can schedule a day for your troop to come in, siblings and friends are always welcome!
